At 2:57 p.m. on Friday, the National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning in effect until 6 p.m. for Cortland, Madison and Onondaga counties.
“At 2:57 p.m., Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in an hour. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly,” according to the weather service. “Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.”
