In 2023, Madison Brooks, a 19-year-old Louisiana State University student, was tragically struck and killed by a vehicle after allegedly being gang-raped following a night out.
As accused rapist Desmond Carter prepares to face a judge later this month, court records indicate that a courtroom dispute over the color pink has been settled. East Baton Rouge Judge Gail Ray issued a new court filing on Thursday, rejecting a motion by Carter’s defense team that sought to ban spectators and Brooks’ supporters from wearing pink in the courtroom.
The judge further noted in the filing that “the wearing of a T-shirt with the picture of the victim is a visual message, solely for the purpose of promoting pity for the victim and arouse the passion and prejudice against the defendant for the crime,” and would not be permitted inside the courtroom.
