This South Carolina Campground Lets You Fall Asleep Beside the Edisto River

City life sure has its perks, but life is all about balance. Located just 90 minutes outside of Charleston, one of the most unique campgrounds in South Carolina offers a chance to stay on a farm and experience the slower pace we often crave. If you need a break from the everyday hustle, Black Pearl Farms might just be the answer.

This isn’t your average campground, though. Far from it, actually. How often do you have the option to relax in a wood-fired sauna at a campground?

What Makes This Unique Campground in South Carolina So Special?

Named one of the best Hipcamps in 2024, Black Pearl Farms offers some of the best camping near the Edisto River in South Carolina. Mike and Meghan traded suburban New York life for a rural farm life in South Carolina and never looked back. The 145-acre farm grows blueberries, blackberries, figs, raspberries, and most recently, lavender as part of their mission to provide organic produce and small-batch home and body products. Campers are welcome to purchase any seasonal products from the farm store during their stay.

What To Expect When You Stay at Black Pearl Farms

Black Pearl Farms is one of the most unique places to stay in South Carolina, and there are several ways to spend the night. Roll up in your RV and park at one of the RV campsites with full hookups, pitch a tent and sleep surrounded by the orchards, or take advantage of one of the many glamping options, like a geodesic tent or a standard canvas tent.

The campground sits along the beautiful Edisto River, and campers can fish, swim, or rent a canoe and explore the river by paddle. A few of the campsites are waterfront, taking you from bed to boat in just a few steps!

After a day of exploring the nearby attractions, like Colleton State Park, kick back and relax in the wood-fired sauna. You don’t see a traditional wood-fired sauna at your average campground, that’s for sure! Renting the sauna is an additional fee, and it’s absolutely worth it in my opinion. Lavender and eucalyptus essential oils are also offered, which adds an extra layer of aromatherapy to this unique campground experience.

Best Time To Visit This Waterfront Campground in South Carolina

The beauty about camping in South Carolina is that you can do it year-round. Since the kids are out of school, summertime tends to be one of the most popular times to go camping, though I’m partial to camping in the fall. The temperatures drop a bit, the campfire feels justified, the bugs are at bay, and the fall foliage is just the cherry on top.

What To Know Before You Book

These days, it’s very common for campgrounds to offer the basics and not much else, but Black Pearl Farms is breaking the mold. There are several add-ons that campers can select for a more personal experience, including a farm tour, a honey tasting experience sampling honey right from the farm’s beehives, and even farm-fresh eggs that will take your breakfast from good to great. You can make this camping experience whatever you want it to be, and that’s what makes Black Pearl Farms one of the best campgrounds in South Carolina.
