NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – South Carolina students are posting some of their strongest academic gains in years, with one North Charleston school emerging as a statewide leader in English Language Arts (ELA) growth.
Meeting Street Elementary’s Burns campus saw the percentage of students meeting or exceeding state standards in ELA jump from 46% last year to 68% this year, a 22-point increase that makes it the most improved school in the state for ELA, according to newly released data from the 2025-2026 SC Ready exam. State Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver announced the results in the Lowcountry on Monday, highlighting record-breaking achievements across South Carolina.
The SC Ready exam measures student performance in math and English Language Arts for grades 3 through 8. This year’s results show more students than ever meeting or exceeding expectations statewide.
