PHENIX CITY, Ala. (WTVM) – The father of 5-year-old Kamarie Holland is facing a charge connected to his daughter’s 2021 kidnapping and murder, with his case now scheduled during the August 10 term of court.
Corey Holland, Sr. was indicted by a Russell County Grand Jury in February 2022 on one count of reckless endangerment in connection with Kamarie’s death, according to Russell County District Attorney Rick Chancey. Holland has been arrested on the charge and has since bailed out of jail.
Charge stems from alleged violation of custody order
Chancey said the charge was filed because Holland allegedly violated a judge’s order prohibiting him from allowing Kamarie to go with her mother, Kristy Siple. Siple did not have custody of her children at the time of Kamarie’s murder. The charges stem from Kamarie being in Siple’s care the night of her kidnapping and murder.
If convicted, the charge carries a penalty of zero to 12 months in jail.
Case timeline uncertain amid backlog
Holland’s court date is set for the August 10 term of court, which began Monday. However, Chancey said he has no indication of when the case will actually be heard, as it is one of approximately 600 pending cases in the county.
