A Huntersville venue turned away a same-sex couple
Eliza Lieberman and Brooke Rhodes got engaged July 19 in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Ten days later, a TikTok video Lieberman posted about a Huntersville wedding venue declining to host their ceremony racked up more than 450,000 views in less than a week. The Secret Garden and Estate cited “sincerely held biblical beliefs regarding marriage” — and under North Carolina law, that’s allowed. The state has no law prohibiting businesses from turning customers away based on sexual orientation, leaving the question to individual municipalities, the ACLU said. An unprovoked punch on a Dilworth sidewalk
A woman walking down East Boulevard on Thursday morning was knocked out by a stranger who filmed the attack. Di-Quan Schafar Hunt, 32, was arrested Friday after a daylong search. The pending assault-with-a-deadly-weapon charge is Hunt’s 23rd criminal charge in 14 years, records show. Parents cited after uptown teen takeover
Thirteen parents were hit with misdemeanor charges after their kids got swept up in a June 20 “teen takeover” uptown.
