NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY)– As families gear up to send their children back to school, that preparation can look a little different for some, including those who have children on the autism spectrum. That’s why a local non-profit is stepping in to make sure all children are set up for success.
Moms Who Advocate is a non-profit organization, based in Norfolk, that offers resources to families with autistic children. On Aug. 16, they’re set to host their ‘Building Together’ Community Day from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at 840 Church Street.
CEO and founder Capri Bland says she wanted to create a space where all children could feel comfortable. While the event is open to all, it is catered to children who have autism.
“We’re going to have areas for children on the spectrum. Sensory areas inside of our building as well as outside in the parking lot” Bland said…
