SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Authorities arrested a convicted felon Friday morning after finding him with guns, including what appeared to be an illegally modified fully automatic weapon, according to the Springfield Police Department.
SPD officials said that officers served a search warrant at an apartment in the 2700 block of Pierce Parkway around 9 a.m. Aug. 7. The warrant came after an investigation into 21-year-old Kalani Kapihe, who police say had assault-style rifles and pistols despite being a convicted felon. Because of Kapihe’s criminal history and the guns involved, the Springfield Police SWAT and Crisis Negotiation teams handled the warrant. The Eugene-Springfield Metro Drone Team and Lane County Sheriff’s Office helped with the operation.
