On July 23, Metro Nashville Police Lieutenant Mike Hotz noticed Gary Butler standing at the edge of the Victory Memorial Bridge above the Cumberland River, according to News Channel 5. When he realized that Butler appeared to be in distress, Hotz sprang into action.
