On July 30, Phenix City held a proposed budget session featuring presentations on administration, public safety, recreation, and public works. Only five citizens showed up for the meeting and no one requested to speak during the public hearing. The council approved the budget in the August 4 regular session.
City Manager Wallace Hunter reported that, “Overall, the financial position of the City is solid, and the outlook in the next fiscal year is positive. We will continue to operate conservatively, making sound financial decisions for the continued growth and development of the whole City.”
The proposal emphasized conservative practices aimed at boosting reserves, servicing debt, and expanding capital projects. According to the document, “This budget was prepared with the City’s continuous implementation of conservative budgeting practices and spending policies in an ongoing effort to increase operating reserves, adequately service and reduce debt obligations, and implement and expand capital improvement plans and projects. The goals of these efforts are to maintain and improve the City’s infrastructure, recreational activities, economic growth, and the overall quality of life for its citizens.”…
