CORPUS CHRISTI — A South Carolina man has been sentenced to 25 years in federal prison for running an illegal firearm straw purchasing operation that funneled weapons to Mexican drug cartels, following an investigation that included assistance from the Aransas Pass Police Department.
According to an Aug. 4 news release from the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, 38-year-old Shawn Bisnauth of Rock Hill, South Carolina, was sentenced to 300 months in prison for conspiring to straw purchase firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
U.S. District Judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos ordered Bisnauth to serve the 300-month prison term, to be followed immediately by five years of supervised release. Bisnauth pled guilty to the charge on May 7, according to the DEA…
