ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Nearly 43% of Alaska students were considered chronically absent in the 2023 – 2024 school year, according to the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development — but one Anchorage high school has spent three years quietly reversing that trend.
Principal Imtiaz Azzam of Service High School says attendance is one thing the school is prioritizing this school year.
“How can we work together to maintain that consistency that attendance is important, and it is your responsibility as it is ours and mine,” Principal Azzam said. “This is one of the things that we usually struggle with.”…
