Breakfast in the Carolinas is about to feel a little more like it used to. After months of silence — and a whole lot of worry from folks who always had Neese’s on the table — the beloved North Carolina brand is stitching itself back together. And, yes, the liver pudding and livermush are part of the plan.

🐷 Neese’s livermush, liver pudding are coming back

If you grew up on Neese’s, the past year has been rough. The Greensboro plant that made the beloved North Carolina sausage brand partially shut down production after positive listeria tests in September 2025, leaving grocery shelves — and restaurant kitchens — without its iconic flavors.

Food Lion announced Aug. 4 that Neese’s Regular, Hot and Extra Sage Country Sausage would return to stores this month. But the biggest question in North Carolina households wasn’t about sausage. It was: What about the livermush? 🤔

Duncan C. White of White Packing Co., the parent company of Neese’s new owner Jesse Jones, told CharlotteFive: “We are currently targeting a relaunch for Neese’s liver pudding in the fall.” He added in a follow-up, “We are also planning to bring back Neese’s Liver Mush.” 🎉

Here’s the important part for anyone still nervous about food safety: Production has moved. “We are not producing any of the products at the Greensboro facility,” White told CharlotteFive. “The plant did not meet our food safety standards and was not retained during the acquisition. All Neese’s products are being made in a modern, USDA-inspected facility, on new machinery to ensure food safety.”…
