Charlotte Area Foreclosures Jump 71% as Financial Pressures Mount

Foreclosure filings in the Charlotte-Concord-Gastonia metro area climbed 71% during the first six months of 2026 when compared with the same stretch a year before. The data comes from ATTOM, a company that tracks real estate analytics. North Carolina saw 8,429 properties hit with foreclosure filings across those six months — up 47% from the prior year.

The state ranked fourth-largest for increases among areas with at least 500 filings. Nationwide, about one in every 632 housing units faced a filing. North Carolina’s rate ran higher at one in every 581 units.
