FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A street in Fresno was closed for traffic while a fire in an electric garbage truck was extinguished on Thursday, according to the city’s fire department.
Crews responded to the scene in the area of North Winery Avenue, near Princeton Avenue, at around noon after the driver of an electric garbage truck reported hearing popping noises and seeing smoke from the rear of the vehicle.
Fresno Fire responded to the scene to discover what was established to be a lithium-ion battery fire; crews suspect that a battery that was discarded and collected by the garbage truck was what caught fire.
