WINSON CO., Alabama — An Ankeny man is charged in Alabama for illegally capturing and possessing more than 100 protected flattened musk turtles.
Paperwork filed in Winston County, Alabama alleges that Aiden Throndson faces 20 counts of violating the protection of flattened musk turtles and 104 count of taking or selling the species.
According to the complaint, the alleged offense occurred on or about Aug. 5, 2026, at or near Highway 278 and County Road 73 in Winston County.
Alabama law specifically protects the flattened musk turtle, scientifically known as Sternotherus depressus. The statute prohibits, among other conduct, hunting, trapping, collecting or capturing the turtle without applicable authorization.
