LANSING, Mich. (News 10) – Local activists held a community fun day at St. Joseph Park on Saturday, distributing free shoes and food to families while calling for peace following recent violence near the park.
Larry Johnson, with Brotherhood Against Drugs, said this year’s event carried a message beyond giveaways.
“I grew up in this park. A lot of people grew up in this park. We played football here, basketball. And so we know that those two things that happened here is not usual things that happen. And so we wanted to bring the pastors in. Let’s pray over our park, get our park back,” Johnson said.
