Asheville crime down in 2026, but firearm assaults increase, police say

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) — Overall crime in Asheville is down so far this year, while firearm-related aggravated assaults have increased from an unusually low level in 2025, according to Asheville police.

APD reported 224 violent crimes and 2,002 property crimes through July 19, according to year-to-date figures presented to the Public Safety Committee on July 29.

That’s about 3 percent fewer violent crimes and 9 percent fewer property crimes than the same period in 2025, when APD reported 230 violent crimes and 2,194 property crimes…
