Kitchen hood fire at Chuy’s on Rosedale Highway quickly contained

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A kitchen hood fire at Chuy’s on Rosedale Highway prompted a multi-agency response Tuesday morning, with the blaze quickly contained.

The Kern County Fire Department said on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at around 9 a.m., there was a commercial structure that had a working fire in the kitchen area, specifically in the hood area over the cooktops at the Chuy’s restaurant on Rosedale Highway.

Andrew Freeborn, KCFD’s Public Information Officer, said fire personnel found smoke from the roof.

KCFD said employees had evacuated from the location.

“They’ve done a very good job of recognizing, while they were doing their morning routine, firing up the restaurant, that they could see and smell smoke,” said Freeborn. “It was growing. They began evacuating the facility, as well as doing what they could to extinguish the fire.”…
