CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — A jury has found Kaleek Lewis guilty in the shooting death of Dedric Arnold following closing arguments and deliberations Tuesday.
Jurors found Lewis guilty of first-degree murder in Arnold’s death. Lewis also was found guilty of attempted murder and multiple weapons- and drug-related charges.
During closing arguments, prosecutors argued Lewis intentionally opened fire and urged jurors to focus on his actions and messages in the hours leading up to the shooting. The state walked jurors through a timeline of text messages and surveillance video from Sept. 10, 2025, highlighting messages Lewis sent before the shooting, including one in which prosecutors said Lewis referred to the men as people “begging to die.”…
