This Arizona Pizza Place Has a Giant Wurlitzer Organ That Steals the Show

The doors to that Arizona pizza spot swung open, and a wall of sound rolled out that I felt in my chest before I even ordered anything. I had pulled into the parking lot expecting a quick slice, but the building looked more like a concert hall than a restaurant.

The star of the whole operation is a theatre organ from the 1920s, originally built for a silent movie palace and later moved to the desert. Thousands of pipes are hidden behind the walls, and when the music starts, the whole room vibrates.

I came for a slice and stayed for two hours, grinning like a kid, watching bubbles drift down from a ceiling that rises high enough to make you feel small. Families packed the long tables around me, kids danced in the aisles, and nobody looked at their phone…
