Two weeks after the Spokane Complex fires, many people were still stopping by the remains of their burned down homes — to check for valuables, to gather a few surviving possessions, to process their grief. Others were checking on homes that are still standing but damaged by smoke, ash and heat.
Many surviving buildings between Five Mile and Seven Mile were still covered in the pinkish fire retardant dropped by firefighting planes on Aug. 1.
