JHA is proposing a 30-hour a week work requirement to live in public housing. But it could never happen

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A proposed change from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) could give local housing authorities the option to require some residents receiving federal housing assistance to work or face limits on how long they can receive assistance.

The proposal would allow public housing authorities to require work-eligible adults, generally those ages 18 to 61, to work up to 40 hours a week as a condition of receiving housing assistance.

There are exemptions for certain residents, including people with qualifying disabilities and adults age 62 and older…
