AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – Commuters heading into downtown Amarillo on Thursday morning have been met with delays and back-up amid a closure on South Fillmore Street north of the I-27 and I-40 interchange.
According to one sign near the exit to South Fillmore Street from northbound I-27 and drivers in the area, the closure began early Thursday morning.
MyHighPlains.com has reached out to the City of Amarillo and the Texas Department of Transportation Amarillo District for further information on the closure, including the overseeing agency and expected duration. TxDOT Amarillo officials confirmed the closure is due to a City of Amarillo project.
In a Monday social media post from the City of Amarillo, officials said crews would begin work impacting South Fillmore Street from South 11th Avenue to South 2nd Avenue as well as North Pierce Street from North 3rd Avenue to North 11th Avenue. However, it did not specify a total road closure or note the expected duration of the work.
