As a Guilderland Town Board member, I want to be clear: I oppose the proposed battery-energy storage facility on Wormer Road in New Scotland.
This is the wrong location for this type of facility. The proposal places large-scale battery storage in a residential area where there are no fire hydrants, questions surrounding adequate water for fire suppression, private wells, nearby homes, wetlands, and limited emergency-response resources.
The concerns raised by the New Scotland fire chief should not be dismissed. When the local fire chief says he is not 100-percent confident his department can safely respond to a battery fire at this location, that should stop us and demand a serious reassessment of the project…
