It has been a slow warmup this morning as cloud coverage has stuck around in Albuquerque and central New Mexico. Temperatures around 11 am were in the upper 70s in the Duke City while most of the metro has warmed up into the upper 80s. The heat will be around today with a few locations reaching near record territory. Clayton could be one of those locations that experiences record heat. This afternoon the cities forecasted high is 98 degrees and the record sits at 99 degrees, which was previously set in 2007.
Tomorrow morning, the monsoon high enters northeast New Mexico allowing our temperatures to remain in near record to record territory on Saturday. Las Vegas, Clayton, Tucumcari and Roswell are some locations that could set new records. Forecasted highs are within a degree of setting a new record for those areas. Tucumcari’s forecasted high is 105 degrees, which would surpass the 2024 record of 103 degrees. High temperatures are still expected to be roughly 5-10 degrees above normal through early next week. Albuquerque could see record warmth if we reach 97 degrees on Sunday. Additional records could be tied or fall in the Duke City with forecasted high temperatures getting close to 100 degrees, yet again, Monday through Thursday…
