TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A local woman turned her 40th birthday party into a fundraiser for the nonprofit she started to help people get to life-saving medical treatment in New York City and Boston. Francesca LoPorto-Brandow invited the community to celebrate on the rooftop of the Franklin Plaza in Troy, with the party being hosted by owner Michael Cocca.

LoPorto-Brandow is a cancer survivor who has put thousands of miles on her car driving family members to treatment at Sloan Kettering. She knows all too well the worry and expense that comes with long-distance travel when you’re sick, so LoPorto-Brandow started the Flutter Club to offer transportation with purpose.
“As a cancer survivor, birthdays are really important to me. I was 34-years-old when I was diagnosed with stage 4 non-Hodgkin lymphoma. I had a 2% chance of survival, and I made a promise from my hospital bed that I would help other people who are going through difficult healthcare journeys, and Flutter Club does just that,” she said.

NEWS10’s parent company, Nexstar Broadcasting, donated $5,000 to the Flutter Club during this summer’s Nexstar Charitable Foundation “30 Days of Giving” campaign. The nonprofit was one of 60 organizations to benefit across the country.
