Florida had its second scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday night. Information from the scrimmage wasn’t as “locked down” as it was in the first scrimmage, and details started to make their way onto social media. Most notably, Tramell Jones got some time with the 1st team and scored a touchdown and threw an interception.
But whether or not Florida fans actually know which QB between Jones and Aaron Philo is the better option to be QB1 to start the 2026 season, Jon Sumrall is down to roughly one week to make a decision. His press conference this week will go a long way toward clarifying for Gator fans whether Jones did enough at the scrimmage to keep this battle going or whether Saturday was merely a formality in the QB battle.
Florida has its second scrimmage of fall camp
We noted this week how it felt like Sumrall was grading Jones and Philo on different curves. It has felt like Philo has been granted a greater margin of error than Jones, and Sumrall’s comments make it seem like one of the only reasons Philo has been ahead is that he knows Florida’s offense by heart.
So Sumrall’s tone toward Jones this week will be very telling. Keep in mind, one thing we highlighted last week was how Sumrall made sure to praise Philo for leading a touchdown drive right after throwing an interception. Will Jones get the same treatment?…
