Greensboro nonprofit gifts car to man recently released from prison: ‘This car is everything to me’

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — Charles McNeair has been free for 116 days after spending 46 years behind bars.

He was a teenager when he was accused of the rape of an older white woman in Lexington in 1979 during a period of deep racial division.

A judge sentenced him to life in prison. He’s always maintained his innocence.

Now, free on parole and 64 years old, he has the means to get around on his own for the first time…
