‘It’s still money!’ Lubbock man charged with assault after dispute over $2

LUBBOCK, Texas — 23-year-old Kaden Wheeling was arrested and charged following a physical altercation in Lubbock over allegedly owed money.

According to court documents, officers with the Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit were made aware of an assault that took place in the 2200 block of 20th Street on July 16, 2026. The victim told investigators that they went to let their dogs into the backyard of their residence, which was the aforementioned address, when they saw Wheeling and two other unnamed individuals standing in the yard.

The victim recognized all three individuals and said that they had a connection with Wheeling. They told officers they went back into the residence and went back to sleep before Wheeling and another individual entered the home around two hours later. Upon entry, Wheeling allegedly began punching the victim around 20 times in the head. The other individual with Wheeling told them that they owed money, which is why the pair were assaulting them…
