As the stands filled at the Eugene Emeralds game Aug. 22, popcorn was passed around and the crowd milled about. Barry Barreau, 71, stood alone. As always, he warmed up to make sure he could hit the high C note, and he drank excess amounts of water so as not to be “scared spitless” before his performance.
