CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – For nearly two decades, a building widely known as the “Dewberry Hotel” has stood vacant on Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall. The city is now giving the owner 60 days to come up with a plan, saying its patience with the property is fizzling out.
Charlottesville City Attorney John Maddux sent a letter dated Aug. 19 to property owner John Dewberry, copying City Manager Sam Sanders, Charlottesville City Council, Director of Economic Development Chris Engel, City Building Official Chris Miller, Chief Deputy City Attorney J. Vaden Hunt, and CT Corporation Systems.
In it, the city asks Dewberry to provide a written plan for the vacant property, addressing the property’s intended disposition, a schedule of milestone dates, the measures he will take to secure the site, and contact information for an authorized representative, should he wish to communicate through counsel…
