A decision in Washington State by Kitsap Public Utility District (PUD) commissioners to ask voters whether the district should be authorized to provide electric service has drawn a sharp response from Puget Sound Energy (PSE).
The investor-owned electric and natural gas utility says customers could ultimately face significant costs without knowing how much a potential takeover of its Kitsap County, Wash., system would cost or how the new utility would operate.
“Specific to Kitsap County, our system is not for sale and we do not believe that Kitsap PUD will deliver better results for our customers,” PSE spokesperson Christina Donegan told Daily Energy Insider. “They have zero experience nor have they publicly presented a plan explaining how they would fund, operate, maintain, or power an electric utility of the size and complexity required by customers in Kitsap.”…
