Lightning Sparks Fire Along I-95 South

Fire department personnel from Duval and Nassau counties responded last Thursday to a lightning strike brush fire alongside I-95 southbound just before the county line near mile marker 367.

The event lasted about a half hour. It combined with a heavy rainfall to slow traffic but did not create any significant delays.

“There was a small brush fire they (Nassau County Fire and Rescue Department) believed to be caused by lightning,” said Sabrina Robertson, communications officer with Nassau County, after she called Assistant Fire Chief Greg Roland. “NCFR Ladder 10 responded along with Jacksonville Fire and Rescue (JFRD). The fire was estimated to be about 2/10ths of an acre and was put out quickly without any incident or injuries.”…
