A house fire near Old Dominion University sent one person to the hospital Tuesday evening after Norfolk Fire Rescue responded to a blaze that quickly grew difficult to control.
Fire Breaks Out on West 43rd Street
Crews were dispatched around 7:20 p.m. to the 1500 block of West 43rd Street, a residential area situated directly across from the university, after receiving reports of a structure fire. When firefighters arrived, they found a two-story, wood-framed home with visible flames coming from the building.
Firefighters first tried to knock down the fire from inside the structure. The flames proved too intense to control from that position, forcing crews to shift their approach and continue battling the fire from the outside instead.
