Shreveport tenant, lawmaker call for crackdown on blighted apartments

SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – City and state officials met this week to discuss ways to crack down on blighted apartment complexes. A Shreveport woman living in one such complex says she has reached a breaking point.

Ruthie Nash, 59, lives at the Fairmont Apartments. She said the mold has made it hard to consider the unit her home.

“And I live in this apartment; in this mold that’s in here. And they didn’t know that the mold been here,” Nash said. “Actually, this place had been supposed to be condemned years ago. They’ve been painting over it.”…
