Until the late 1990s, Summit Street north of Cherry Street was a primary route linking downtown Toledo to I-280 at the Craig Memorial Bridge, and its importance once extended even farther through Point Place into Michigan.
But its five-lane width through Toledo’s Vistula neighborhood became anachronistic with Greenbelt Parkway’s construction and then the Veterans’ Glass City Skyway’s 2007 opening. The latter severed Summit’s last direct connection to I-280.
