Increased fees, new tax part of Prichard plan to boost spending by 22 percent

PRICHARD, Ala. (WALA) – In her first public remarks since releasing her first budget proposal, Mayor Carletta Davis on Thursday laid out her blueprint for large spending increases – hikes she said are necessary to address critical problems.

The spending increases would be paid for through a mix of new fees and taxes and more aggressive collection of levies already on the books.

Passing the budget would be an accomplishment in and of itself; the council has not passed one since April 2024 – midway through the fiscal year…
