By travel bloggers and tourists alike, discussions of Michigan’s best gems can be found all over online. Lists will usually contain several familiar spots, including Mackinac Island, Sleeping Bear Dune National Lakeshore, Belle Isle and the Porcupine Mountains. It’s hard to argue with those choices. However, what has not yet been included in the discussion is Michigan’s finest gem, which was on display Wednesday evening at JDs Stage Bistro, located in the heart of downtown Chelsea.
Jeff Daniels, who grew up in Chelsea and has starring roles in films and on Broadway, welcomed patrons to the new restaurant and venue with a grand opening concert. While speaking to the press before, Daniels said that helping Chelsea’s and its “Norman Rockwell” local community thrive was important to him.
“We’re helping the businesses around here, and there are people who are moving here because of that,” he said. “And maybe JDs Stage Bistro will help that as well. So, I’m all for it, and if that means it’s a new Chelsea, I think it’s a good thing.”
Daniels, who owns The Purple Rose Theatre as well, remains one of Chelsea’s finest gems. He personifies all of Michigan, all the time.
