Businesswoman Dies After Lengthy Cosmetic Surgery in Brazil

A businesswoman tragically died shortly after undergoing an extensive cosmetic surgery in Goiânia, Brazil. Andreia Vieira Gaspar, 51, passed away in the early hours of August 12, only hours after a nearly 10-hour operation that combined six different procedures on her face and neck.

The surgery included a deep-plane facelift, forehead lift, bony genioplasty, blepharoplasty, neck liposuction, and nanofat injection. Following the procedure, Andreia was reported to be severely swollen and struggling to breathe.

Overnight, her condition deteriorated further, with increasing neck pain and labored breathing. In a heartbreaking moment, she reportedly told her sister, Djiane Vieira, “Sis, I’m dying.”

Desperate for help, Djiane reached out to the medical team via a group chat, pleading, “My sister is dying. You’re not answering, nobody’s coming.

Please, for God’s sake.” Despite these calls for urgent assistance, Andreia’s condition worsened.

A medical report cited by her family identified acute thrombosis and pulmonary infarction as the cause of death. Andreia, who had previously run a beauty salon in Goiânia, had lived in Spain for five years before returning to Brazil to fulfill a long-held dream of undergoing this cosmetic transformation. According to her sister, Andreia spent two years saving approximately 118,000 Brazilian reais (around $22,900) for the surgery.

The family also raised concerns about the hospital’s capabilities, suggesting it lacked an intensive care unit to handle potential complications. The Goi Public Prosecutor’s Office has since called for a police investigation into possible involuntary manslaughter.

Andreia’s family questions the quality of post-operative care, arguing that medical intervention might have prevented her death if administered earlier. In response, Ankar Hospital’s attorney, Cristiene Pereira Couto, stated that immediate emergency treatment was provided by medical and nursing staff. The attorney emphasized that pre-operative assessments were conducted externally before Andreia’s admission and that the hospital responded promptly once complications arose.

Surgeon Dr. Lessandro Martins expressed his sorrow over Andreia’s passing and extended his sympathies to her family, affirming confidence that the ongoing investigation will confirm that appropriate care was delivered.
