The case began after the victim’s mother contacted authorities, according to KOCO, which first reported the arrests. Per court documents cited by the station, suspects threatened the victim’s life and demanded his mother send money for his release. The mother reportedly received a screenshot of a Venmo account matching one suspect’s name, a detail investigators later used to help tie the men to the crime.
Police analyzed images sent to the victim’s mother for clues, and investigators say distinct markings on a wall and front door in the photos helped them pinpoint the exact home where the victim was being held. That address turned out to be on South Harvey Avenue in Oklahoma City. Officers also tracked the victim’s cellphone through emergency pings, a technique that federal law allows without a warrant when officers reasonably believe someone faces immediate danger of death or serious injury, under the Stored Communications Act.
