The Salem Wildcats got a heart pumping, come from behind win at Olney last night. Trailing 27-21 with 5:24 left in the game, Salem went on a 65-yard drive capped off by a Trey Clark 2-yard touchdown run to tie the game. New kicker, senior Avery Gullion, then drilled the extra point with 19 seconds left to give Salem the 28-27 win. Clark was great as the senior tailback rushed 32 times for 222 yards and 3 touchdowns. Kaeden Bevolo was 12-of-17 threw the air for 131 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed 8 times for 72 yards including a 31-yard touchdown run. The defensive front was great all night for Salem with Max Vincent having a great game. Salem is 1-1 and will play at home for the first time next week when they host Mattoon for Mom’s Night at Jim Finks Field.
The Centralia Orphans reeled off 35 unanswered points as they won their first Cahokia Conference game, winning at Civic Memorial 49-7. Archie Goewey went 16-of-23 for 201 yards, JaShawn Staples had a rushing TD along with Will Stanton. Staples rushed for 196 yards on 18 carries. Caiden Taylor made his 14 straight PAT to open the season. Kenny Bratton had a 45-yard punt return for a touchdown early in the third. The Orphans will host Jerseyville next week.
Carlyle won their 2nd straight game, 47-7 at Pinckneyville. Coin Rahm was 9-of-10 for 139 yards and 2 touchdowns, both to Ethan Peebles. Eli Gray rushed for 187 yards and 3 touchdowns for the Indians and Zach Beckemeyer also had 2 touchdowns…
