Over two dozen beach closures were in effect on Sunday across Massachusetts, with elevated bacteria levels and harmful cyanobacteria blooms responsible for most of the advisories.
State data listed 27 beach closures across 18 communities on Aug. 23. Fifteen were closed due to unsafe bacteria levels, while nine were attributed to cyanobacteria blooms. Three others were listed as being closed for other reasons.
