Mount Pleasant leaders to review proposed animal cruelty ordinance changes

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – Mount Pleasant officials are expected to review proposed changes to the town’s animal cruelty ordinance Monday as leaders look to strengthen protections for animals and give law enforcement additional tools to address neglect and abuse cases.

The discussion is scheduled during the town’s Police, Judicial & Legal Committee meeting at 1 p.m.

Town leaders say the proposed ordinance is intended to make Mount Pleasant a leader in animal welfare by expanding care standards, clarifying definitions of neglect and cruelty, and enhancing enforcement options available to police and animal control officers…
