AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — Amarillo firefighters responded to two fires early Sunday, including one that destroyed a vacant home in northwest Amarillo and a trash fire that threatened a commercial building southwest of downtown.
Around 5 a.m., the Amarillo Fire Department responded to the 1100 block of Northwest 12th Avenue, where crews found a single-story vacant house fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters used a defensive attack because of the extent of the fire and worked to protect a neighboring home to the south.
Residents of the neighboring home were evacuated as a precaution. Part of the burning home collapsed during firefighting operations, and crews monitored the area for spot fires caused by flying embers, the department said…
