GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) — The Gainesville Police Department held a news conference on Tuesday warning parents and the community about online threats that target children using social media and other platforms.
Officials said one growing threat is “sextortion,” where a child is convinced to send an image, and that image is then used to threaten or extort them.
“If a student is seeing something they don’t feel is right, they certainly tell a teacher, tell their parents, and they should find the right way to immediately tell law enforcement.
