BROWN COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) – Despite being confined to a cell, local inmates are finding a way to positively giving back to their community while developing labor skills along the way.
A social media post from the Brown County Sheriff’s Office shares how the county jail’s inmates have been actively expanding their garden program.
The program focuses on providing inmates an opportunity to be productive, increase self-esteem, reduce stress, develop patience, and give back to the community. It also aims to enhance skill development while also working to reduce repeat-offense rates.
Habitat for Humanity launches project to help 100 families impacted by tornado
The program started in 2024 with 10 garden beds, which are home to a variety of produce, but this year the number of beds doubled, bringing the total to 20 gardening beds to plant and harvest.
All the produce grown under the program this year has already been donated to Freedom House, Altrusa House, and House of Hope, supporting those in the community who need it most.
