Fashion designers and models have always traveled the world for their art. Lithe bodies in chic and wildly expensive garments walk runways in New York, London, Milan, Tokyo and Paris as designers vie for the eyes of celebrities and cultural provocateurs.
To those uninterested in apparel, the whole idea of fashion week may seem like pretentious showcases of wealth. But, as Miranda Priestly (played by Meryl Streep) describes in her famous cerulean monologue in The Devil Wears Prada, our ambivalence about the clothes we wear does not exempt any of us from the fashion industry.
