As Anthony Wayne Local Schools staff gathered for the beginning of the school year in August, Superintendent Kevin Herman named Christine Young as Certified Staff Member of the Year and Jen Gross as Classified Staff Member of the Year. Below are profiles of the two women, both of whom will be recognized during the Monday, Sept. 14 Anthony Wayne Board of Education meeting.
Jen Gross
Classified Staff Member of the Year
As a special education aide at Whitehouse Primary, Gross supports student learning for students in kindergarten through fourth grade, helping them strengthen their academic skills, navigate expectations and build confidence as learners.
Gross’ path to Whitehouse Primary began outside of education. While she considered becoming a teacher, she earned a degree from The University of Toledo in business, finance and marketing and worked in that field for several years. It was during her nine years as a full-time mom and volunteer at Whitehouse Primary that she developed a strong appreciation for the school environment and the collaborative culture among staff.
“I loved working with the teachers and staff, so when a position opened up for a special education aide, I applied for the position,” she explained. “Now I love my co-workers, and it’s an honor to work alongside them.”…
