FORT WORTH, Texas — A 20-year-old man has been convicted of murder and sentenced to 40 years in state prison for the fatal beating of a 71-year-old man in Fort Worth, the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office announced.
Javaughn Greer, 20, was found guilty of Murder by a Tarrant County jury following the 2025 attack on Donald Snellings, 71. The court subsequently sentenced Greer to a 40-year term in state prison.
Brutal Attack in Historic Southside
The incident occurred on March 21, 2025, in the 900 block of East Broadway Avenue in the Historic Southside neighborhood of Fort Worth. According to evidence presented at trial, Greer and another teenager ambushed Snellings, knocking him to the ground before briefly walking away.
The pair returned shortly after to resume the assault, repeatedly striking Snellings in the head and torso. During the second attack, Greer stomped on Snellings’ head, took the elderly man’s cane, and used it to beat him repeatedly.
Investigation and Medical Examiner Findings
First responders located Snellings unconscious at the scene. He was transported to a local hospital suffering from severe injuries, including a broken jaw, fractured ribs, and a brain bleed. Snellings survived for several weeks before succumbing to his injuries on April 11, 2025, at the Heart to Heart Hospice House.
